CPAmedia News - September 2004

New Staff

We're please to announce that Colin Hinshelwood, also known as "Hinsh", has joined CPAmedia as an Assistant Editor. Colin, who is widely travelled in both Asia and throughout South America, is a fluent Spanish speaker hailing from Glasgow in Scotland. He has now received formal accreditation as a CPAmedia Foreign Correspondent from the Press Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Bangkok.

Photography

Vietnam - David Henley successfully completed a shoot across Northern and Central Vietnam for the AA during August, 2004.

China - Jim Goodman successfully completed a shoot in and around Northwestern Yunnan in July 2004.

Updating and New Books

CPAmedia completed three new AA Spiral Guides (text, photography, layout & design, cartography) which are now being translated into various languages for co-publishers including French, German and Spanish for publication in around six months time. The titles are: AA Spiral Guide Cuba, (by Andrew Forbes), AA Spiral Guide Tunisia (by Stuart Munro-Hay), and AA Spiral Guide Dominican Republic (by Ron Emmons).

CPAmedia's Andrew Forbes completed the text of a new Thomas Cook Travellers Sri Lanka which is now at press, and David Henley shot the images for both Thomas Cook Travellers Sri Lanka and Thomas Cook Travellers Vietnam.

Other Research and Travels

Joe Cummings recently spent six weeks researching and updating for Lonely Planet in Laos. Veteran Southeast Asia hand Jim Goodman has just returned from China where he was writing and taking pictures in Yunnan. Bertil Lintner has been travelling and writing very widely indeed, from Hawaii to the South Pacific, and from North Korea (!) to Iceland. He now has his sights on French Guiana in South America where substantial numbers of Hmong from Laos were resettled after the Second Indochina War. Ron Renard has been busy in Burma / Myanmar, while David Henley and Andrew Forbes have criss-crossed Vietnam from Lao Cai in the north to Hue and Hoi An in the centre. They will be returning to Vietnam to shoot in the south, from Ban Ma Thuot in the Central Highlands to Phu Quoc Island in the Gulf of Thailand, at the beginning of September. Ron Emmons is about to set out for Cambodia where he will be shooting and updating the Rough Guide to that country. Marcel Genühn is currently leading two consecutive tour groups to China but will return to Chiang Mai in October for the "soft opening" of his Ricelands Tour Company and Thai Cookery school (the latter under the supervision of his wife, Jumjim).
