Nepal - The Royal Cities of Asia
The Book
Nepal's legendary Kathmandu Valley, perched halfway up the Himalayas between the lowland Terai and the frozen plateau of Tibet, is home to three royal cities - Bhaktapur, Patan, and Kathmandu itself. Here, set amidst magnificent scenery and beneath snow-shrouded peaks, may be found some of the most beautiful and best preserved examples of mediaeval Nepalese architecture in the country. Here too are spectacular Hindu temples and Buddhist stupas, many tended by extravagantly clad - or unclad - religious mendicants and fakirs. Few places in Asia, or indeed anywhere in the world, are as breathtakingly colourful or so filled with fascination.
